The Finish Line
Amen!!! I have crossed the proverbial finish line!! The basic concept of the Learning 2.0 (aka 23 Things) is a good one - it was not easy to implement. The demands on everyone's time were great. We (including yours truly) have been scrambling to finish the assigned task while doing our jobs. Unfortunately, we have once again reached a point where we are overwhelmed with meetings and training sessions (be they in person or online). Perhaps something to be gained from this experience that is not technologically based is that we need to continually monitor expectations as compared to available time to meet those expectations. Yes, this Learning 2.0 is information we need!! Could we have done it in modules?? Teams?? Please believe me - this is not a complaint - it is a suggestion. While the information was invaluable, it took alot of time to go over. Many of us worked for hours on Learning 2.0 on our on time. Who could accomplish any one of the outlined tasks in 15 minutes and do it properly (please enlighten me if you did!)??? It took at least an hour for each one. The main concern I have here is that the value of the lessons has been diminished by the need to finish the task.
Bloglines Account
I worked with Bloglines today - it's a really great way to save tools that will help with materials selection. I also found new sources of reviews there.
Technology Interest
If only I had tons of time to play with digital photography - perhaps in the not too distant future! It would be great to customize family scrapbooks, edit existing ones, create pamphlets, even self-publish. Recording history would also be a great thrill - what if I took that "once in a lifetime picture"???
Lifelong Learner Pointers
As I viewed the podcast on 7 and 1/2 Habits, I took some notes. The first habit I had a problem with was using technology to my advantage - it often frustrates me. I loathe figuring out how to use a new program - particularly when the logic of the program is not the logic I expect. Compound that with the expectation that I am a competent, effective learner - yes, I am - I am a competent, effective learner who benefits most from the classroom experience. I did call on others to teach me what I wasn't able to learn on my own - but had to keep in mind who could get time off the floor to do so - not always an easy feat! As for #7 1/2 - play! - only with the Meez!!
Project Gutenburg
I took a look at Overdrive - nice step- by- step instructions with screenshots for selection and downloading. Also revisited Project Gutenburg - I remember when all that was available there was a handful of titles. Now they offer so much more - what an abundance of reading list titles!!
Podcasting
Finding so many podcasts already available is amazing!! Learn a foreign language or hear part of a broadcast - wow!! The hardest part of this assignment was getting a link to my bloglines account.
Daily Motion
In looking at the Web 2.0 Awards List, I first tried to sign on to Facebook - no luck. I then opted for Daily Motion to see how it compares to YouTube. It is basically the same - it has categories, most recently viewed, most often viewed, etc. Great entertainment value and information value rest in both sites.
